What is the recommended way to scroll ChatChannelVC to a specific message?

What are you trying to achieve?

I would like to programmatically scroll ChatChannelVC so that a specific message is visible.
Example use case:

• User receives a link with a reference to a specific message in a channel (by ChatMessage.id, e.g.)
• User taps link in app
• App programmatically opens the ChatChannelVC for that channel and programmatically scrolls so that the specified message is visible on screen

Is there a best practice for achieving this?

I'm pretty interested in this too.

Based on the current architecture, one solution would be to use loadPreviousMessages() method on channel's controller to load messages until you find your message.
I think you can use DataControllerStateDelegate's method didUpdateMessages to compare your id with id's from insert message list changes. Note that insert changes look like this: case insert(_ item: Item, index: IndexPath), meaning that you'll have your IndexPath to perform scroll.

Didn't try this method, but this would be my first approach to the problem, if no better solution is provided in this thread.

Thank you! I did some extra work and achieved this behaviour using the method described above, but it would be great if will come out of the box. This comes in handy when used together with #1608 . This is how we are currently using it in our app.

Not an answer but I have a more lightweight version of this problem. When a user taps on a message A that is a reply to a previous message B then I'd like the view to scroll to that previous message B. Is that already possible? Or would that be enabled via the feature you have planned?

Currently, this is not possible indeed and like you said it will be enabled by the planned feature since it is the same implementation.
