Option to ignore .nomedia files #1248

I only use open source apps on my phone except for in island. So far, your music app has been my favorite and has many of the features I need. I do have a problem though. I have a library of over 80GB of music and I try to keep a high quallity album cover in each album folder. The issue is that all of this shows up in my gallery app, and even if I hide the hundreds of photo albums with the covers inside, it fills up other apps too, which is especially annoying when I go to send someone a file. I can create a .nomedia file in a special directory for my music, (since my phone keeps deleting it in the default one), but then Retro player can't play it. I was wondering if there could be future options for explicitly included and scanned folders that can ignore the presence of a .nomedia file. It is driving me insane. I want to note that I have yet to find any media player with this feature. I don't know if this is because of lack of desire or some difficult technical reason. |

We use Android Mediastore which scans for all the media on the phone (music, photos, etc.) For the album covers showing in your gallery, you can create a Powershell or Bash script to add a .nomedia file in every sub directory of the music folder. |

Sorry about that. My directory structure is as follows: Most albums just have a high res cover stored alongside the tracks in the folder, others have pictures of the art on the track listing, disk or vinyl, and so on. By default, all pictures show up in my gallery. I can exclude the folder from my gallery, but whenever I use an app to send a picture, the selection is flooded with these covers. Putting a ".nomedia" file in music results in the file being removed at reboot. Using a location other than the android default will preserve this file, but them the file prevents retro music player from adding those files to my library. You suggested adding a ".nomedia" file in every sub directory in the Music folder. I tested this with a couple of folders and found what I expected, that the contents of those albums were excluded from the library. I was suggesting a feature to ignore the ".nomedia" files, via a setting or some sort of explicit inclusion of a directory into the library regardless of what files are in there. I'm not familiar with android media store but I suppose this makes the problem difficult to address, since I guess the app doesn't build its own library? |

Retro Music relies on MediaStore to fetch music from user's library. MediaStore ignores folders containing a ".nomedia" file as discussed. So sadly, there is currently no solution for your use case. |
