Reading filtered GPIO value inside an external component function

I have an external component in which I would like to read the filtered/debounced state of a GPIO which is using the GPIO platform.

The GPIO is defined like this:

  - platform: gpio
    id: "my_gpio_1"
    pin:
      number: D6
      mode:
        input: true
        pullup: true
    name: "My GPIO 1"
    entity_category: diagnostic
    filters:
      - delayed_on_off: 500ms

To read the value or state I tried:

void MyComponent::loop(){

  ESP_LOGD("test", "my_gpio_1: %d", id("my_gpio_1"));       // outputs 36
  ESP_LOGD("test", "my_gpio_1: %d", id("my_gpio_1").value); // compile error: request for member 'value' ... which is of non-class type 'const char'
  ESP_LOGD("test", "my_gpio_1: %d", id("my_gpio_1").state); // compile error: request for member 'state' ... which is of non-class type 'const char'
  ESP_LOGD("test", "my_gpio_1: %c", id("my_gpio_1"));       // outputs $

}

What is the correct way to read the filtered state of my_gpio_1 in my component's loop?

Why do you say that?

void test()
{
  ESP_LOGD("test", "%f", id(input_fan_speed).state);
}

I thought it was describing essentially the same that I was attempting to do. I was trying to use the id() function in my component's cpp file to read the state of some entity (in their example, input_fan_speed).

I guess it's kind of similar in that way. But the proper and easy way is to do it the way I described.

I did answer you on discord. Your "gpio definition" is incomplete. You don't show what type of thing that is, but I'll assume binary sensor. You would setup your component schema to accept a binary sensor and then use that to get the state.

Okay, so it seems the approach I was thinking about really isn't the right way to do this. I did not want to change the component schema because it will dramatically complicate things.

Maybe I can have the lambda function of the GPIO binary sensor call a method and set the value in my component instead?
